Wigan Boss Roberto Martinez to leave; Heads to Everton

Wigan manager wishes to leave the club maybe due to their relegation and is heading to meet with Everton chairman Bill Ken wright
Martinez had a meeting with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan on Tuesday and told him he had decided to move on after four years at the helm.

The highly-rated Spanish boss led Wigan to a memorable 1-0 victory over Manchester City in this season's FA Cup final but was unable to keep them in the Premier League.

And Whelan said: "Roberto wants to move on.
Rolling contract

"We will let him go but he's on a 12-month rolling contract so, if he moves, someone will have to buy him out of his final year.

"Everton rang me and I said they have permission to talk to him.


"He feels he's not the man to lead us back into the Premier League and I've got to accept what he feels.

"He loves Wigan and the fans but we have to move on now and we want applications for the job."

Everton chairman Bill Ken wright is understood to have sought permission to speak to Martinez about the Goodison Park job over the weekend.

He was asked to wait until Martinez had decided whether or not to stay at Wigan, but the way is now clear for Martinez to replace David Moyes at Everton, if the two parties can agree a deal.
