Angola is Africa’s happiest country, followed by Mauritius and Algeria,
according to a new global survey of 156 countries released Monday. Angola, Mauritius, Algeria, Libya and
Nigeria are the top five happiest countries on the continent, while Ghana, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa and Lesotho are the
next five African nations that are most content.

HOW ALCOHOL INTAKE INCREASES BREAST CANCER RISK

Alcohol increases the risk of labour and hormone receptor positive breast cancer, but not necessarily invasive ductal carcinomas, according to a study published in the journey of the national cancer institute.
Although alcohol intake is an established risk factor for overall breast cancer, few studies have looked at the relationship between alcohol use and breast cancer risk by subtype of crept cancer. While some studies have shown alcohol use is more strongly related to risk of hormone receptor positive (estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor-positive) breast cancer, not many have looked at breast cancer risk by histology, or whether a tumor is ductal - in the milk ducts or lobular, in the milk producing lobules.

To understand how alcohol may influence subtypes of breast cancer, prof. Christopher I. Li and colleagues at Fred Hutchinson cancer Research center, united states, conducted an observational study of a subset of patients in the women's health initiative (WHI) study conducted between 1993 and 1998, which included 87,724 post menopausal women aged 50-79 years.

The researchers look at the following data from the 2,944 women in the WHI study who developed invasion breast cancer: tumor subtypes and hormone status, alcohol consumption, demographic and lifestyle characteristics, family history of diseases and reproductive history.

Women were categorised as those who never drank, those who formerly drank and those who currently drank.
Drinkers were grouped into six categories according to the average number of drinks per week, starting from less than one per week to more than 14 drinks per week.
The researchers found that alcohol use is more strongly related to the risk of lobular carcinoma than ductal carcinoma, and more strongly related to hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer than hormone -receptor-negative breast cancer.

SCIENTISTS ADVANCE IN SEARCH OF AIDS, TB CURE

scientists have recorded new breakthroughs in their advance for cure for Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired immuno Deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and a more effective treatment of tuberculosis (TB).
Using gene profiling, scientists can now predicts who will succumb to tuberculosis and how it select its victims.

TB caused by bacterium. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, infects one-third of people worldwide. But only 10 percent of people is infected will actually get sick with debilitating lung disease. Until now scientists had no way to predict who will become ill.

According to new study published in Nature, an international consortium of researchers has now complied profiles of genetic activity in the blood of people with dormant TB infections, those profiles show how the immune systems deals with tuberculosis and points to some to some suprising culprits responsible for awakening a slumbering infection. Such profiles may help predict someone who could succumb to TB.

Also following up a pioneering 2007 proof of concept study in the university of utah, united states of america, biochemists and colleagues have developed a promising anti Hiv drug candidate, PIE12-trimer, that prevents Hiv from attacking human cells
Associate professor of biochemistry in the university of utah school of medicine united states, and senior author of the study published on august 2010, online by prof. Nicheal s. Kay, is raising fund to begin animal safety studies, followed by human clinical trials in two to three years.

Kay believes that PIE12-trimer is ideally suited for use as a vaginal microbicide (tropically applied drug ) to prevent HIV infection. His research group is particularly focused on preventing the spread of HIV in Africa, which an estimated two-thirds of the worlds 33 million HIV patients according to the world health organisation (WHO).

scientists have recorded new breakthroughs in their advance for cure for Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired immuno Deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and a more effective treatment of tuberculosis (TB).
Using gene profiling, scientists can now predicts who will succumb to tuberculosis and how it select its victims.

TB caused by bacterium. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, infects one-third of people worldwide. But only 10 percent of people is infected will actually get sick with debilitating lung disease. Until now scientists had no way to predict who will become ill.

According to new study published in Nature, an international consortium of researchers has now complied profiles of genetic activity in the blood of people with dormant TB infections, those profiles show how the immune systems deals with tuberculosis and points to some to some suprising culprits responsible for awakening a slumbering infection. Such profiles may help predict someone who could succumb to TB.

Also following up a pioneering 2007 proof of concept study in the university of utah, united states of america, biochemists and colleagues have developed a promising anti Hiv drug candidate, PIE12-trimer, that prevents Hiv from attacking human cells
Associate professor of biochemistry in the university of utah school of medicine united states, and senior author of the study published on august 2010, online by prof. Nicheal s. Kay, is raising fund to begin animal safety studies, followed by human clinical trials in two to three years.

Kay believes that PIE12-trimer is ideally suited for use as a vaginal microbicide (tropically applied drug ) to prevent HIV infection. His research group is particularly focused on preventing the spread of HIV in Africa, which an estimated two-thirds of the worlds 33 million HIV patients according to the world health organisation (WHO).

In recent study, we found that over the course of 12 weeks dieters who drank water before meals, three times per day, lost about five pounds (2.27 kilograms) more than dieters who did not increase their water intake."
